It measured fluid flow rates by using venturi tube and orifice plate, and velocity of fluid is calculated in terms of flow rate and pipe diameter. Friction factor of some valves and fittings such as tee, elbow, Y Junction, gate and globe valves and friction losses in pipe was measured in this system. It is one of the best methods to measure losses in pipes and fittings experimentally. pressure differential transmitters, venturi tube and orifice meter to measure the flow rate, pressure drops on flow rate measurement devices and pressure drops of some valves and fittings to be measured K factors. It also measured the temperature of fluid by using J type Thermocouple. A computer program is written to calculate the Reynold number of fluid, friction factor of pipe, velocity of fluid, frictional losses of fluid, flow rate and K factor of valves and fittings. Required data was received from measured quantities.

Descriptions of Sedimentation Studies Apparatus
Settling or sedimentation is the separation of solid particles from fluids under the gravitational force. When a solid particle moves in a fluid. Then a number of forces are acting on it: 1. The gravitational force, acting downward. 2. The buoyant force, acting upward. 3. The drag force, acting upward. When a particle fall in a fluid under constant force, e.g. force of gravity, then particle accelerates for some time, but when the accelerating force equals the retarding force (Buoyant force and Drag force) then the resultant force acting on the particle will be zero, and particle quickly reaches velocity, which is the maximum attainable under the circumstances and which is called the terminal velocity. When slurry is prepared in a container and then allowed to remain undisturbed for some time, four settling zones will appear as below: A Supernatant Layer C Transition Zone B Slurry Zone D Concentration Sludge Zone. With the passage of time, the height of the different zones will vary and ultimately zone A of clear liquid and zone D of the sludge will be left. When all the solid particles settle in zone D, then this is critical stage and after this no settling takes place. With further passage of time, the height of the zone D will decrease due to the compression of the sludge on account of its own weight. Settling can be free settling or hindered settling. But most of the slurries settle under hindered conditions. Free settling is that in which the motion of one particle is unaffected by the motion of the other particle while in case of hindered settling many particles are present so there is mutual interference in the motion of the particles and the velocity of motion or rate of settling is reduced. The present set-up with 5 Nos. of Borosilicate Glass Graduated Cylinders is designed to study the zone settling depending upon the concentration and characteristics of the particles. These cylinders can be easily removed for cleaning. Rate of change in height of the various liquids/solids interfaces with respect to time can be measured with the help of stop watch.

Venturi Meter is comprised of a horizontal Venturi tube, a downstream flow-control valve and eleven pressure tappings connected to water manometers (piezometers). A common manifold above the piezometers includes an air pressure control valve.The inclusion of eleven piezometers allows study of the pressure distribution along the convergent-divergent passage within the Venture tube.The is designed for use with the Gravimetric or Volumetric Hydraulics Benches (available separately). These benches measure absolute flow rate which can be used by students to find the Venturi meter coefficients over a range of flow conditions.The Venturi meter is a device used to measure the flow rate. As shown, it consists of a tapering contraction section, along which the fluid accelerates towards a short cylindrical throat, followed by a section which diverges back to its original diameter.As velocity increases from the inlet section to the throat, there is a fall in pressure, the magnitude of which depends on the rate of flow. The flow rate may therefore be inferred from the difference in pressure, as measured by pizometers placed upstream and at the throat.The device is used to determine the discharge coefficient or the Venturi meter coefficient (C).This value lies between 0.92-0.99 and varies from one meter to another.

DESCRIPTION
This is a dryer in which moisture removal takes place by fluidization of solids particles by hot air. The set-up fitted with a specially designed, vertical Glass Column. The lower portion of the column is filled with fluidizing material. The material is supported on the screen mesh held between two flanges. Air from a compressor is heated in the heater box and passed through the column. Flow control and by-pass valve are fitted to regulate the airflow. At the top outlet of column a cyclone is provided to collect any solid particles taken out by the air stream.
